Shopping is something we all do. Whether you are in a big shopping centre or a small local shop, you will need some English phrases. This guide teaches you the most useful words and sentences for shopping.

Entering a Shop

الدخول إلى متجر

When you enter a shop, a staff member might say: "Hello, can I help you?" or "Are you looking for anything?" If you are just looking, say: "I'm just browsing, thanks" or "Just looking, thank you."

عندما تدخل متجرًا، قد يقول أحد الموظفين: "مرحبًا، هل يمكنني مساعدتك؟" أو "هل تبحث عن شيء؟" إذا كنت تنظر فقط، قُل: "أنا أتصفّح فقط، شكرًا" أو "أنا أنظر فقط، شكرًا."

Asking About Price and Size

To ask the price, say: "How much is this?" or "How much does this cost?" The answer might be: "It's ten pounds" or "That's twenty-five ninety-nine" (£25.99).

For clothes, you might need to ask: "Do you have this in a medium?", "Can I try this on?", or "Where is the fitting room?" Sizes in the UK are S (small), M (medium), L (large), and XL (extra large).

Paying for Your Items

At the till (checkout), the cashier might say: "That's fifteen pounds, please" or "Would you like a bag?" In the UK, you usually pay for plastic bags (about 10p each).

Returning or Exchanging Items

If you need to return something, go to the customer service desk. Say: "I'd like to return this, please" or "Can I exchange this for a different size?" You will usually need your receipt.

Useful Shopping Vocabulary

Important words: "sale" (items at lower prices), "discount" (money off), "bargain" (a very good price), "receipt" (proof of purchase), "till" (the checkout counter), and "queue" (the line of people waiting).
