Asking for Directions in English
كيف تسأل عن الاتجاهات بالإنجليزية
When you are in a new city, you need to ask for directions. This is normal, even for native speakers.
عندما تكون في مدينة جديدة، تحتاج أن تسأل عن الاتجاهات. هذا طبيعي، حتى للمتحدثين الأصليين.
With a few simple phrases, you can find any place you need. You can also read about a day in London to see these phrases used in a real story.
بعبارات بسيطة قليلة، يمكنك إيجاد أي مكان تحتاجه.
How to Ask for Directions
كيف تسأل عن الاتجاهات
Always start with "Excuse me" to be polite. Then ask your question simply.
ابدأ دائمًا بعبارة "عفوًا" لتكون مهذبًا. ثم اسأل سؤالك ببساطة.
You need to find the train station
تحتاج إلى إيجاد محطة القطار
Excuse me, where is the station?
عفوًا، أين المحطة؟
Show tip
You can replace 'station' with any place: 'the hospital', 'the bank', 'the mosque'.
يمكنك تغيير 'المحطة' بأي مكان: 'المستشفى'، 'البنك'، 'المسجد'.
You are looking for a specific place
تبحث عن مكان محدد
Excuse me, how do I get to the museum?
عفوًا، كيف أصل إلى المتحف؟
You want to know the distance
تريد معرفة المسافة
Is it far from here?
هل هو بعيد من هنا؟
Show tip
If they say '5 minutes walk', it means it is close.
إذا قالوا '5 دقائق مشي'، فهذا يعني أنه قريب.
Understanding Directions
فهم الاتجاهات
When someone gives you directions, listen for these key words. If you are at the airport, you will hear these words often.
عندما يعطيك شخص ما الاتجاهات، استمع لهذه الكلمات الأساسية.
Someone tells you to turn
شخص يقول لك أن تتجه
Turn left at the traffic lights.
انعطف يسارًا عند إشارة المرور.

Traffic lights = the red, yellow, and green lights on the road.

Someone says to go straight
شخص يقول لك أن تمشي مستقيمًا
Go straight and it is on your right.
امشِ مستقيمًا وسيكون على يمينك.
You hear a direction with a landmark
تسمع اتجاهًا مع معلم بارز
It is next to the big supermarket.
إنه بجانب السوبرماركت الكبير.

Common landmarks: supermarket, mosque, school, park, petrol station.
معالم شائعة: سوبرماركت، مسجد، مدرسة، حديقة، محطة وقود.
You hear 'opposite' or 'across from'
تسمع 'مقابل' أو 'على الجهة الأخرى'
The pharmacy is opposite the park.
الصيدلية مقابل الحديقة.
Places in a City
أماكن في المدينة
Here are common places you might need to find. After you find your hotel, you can explore the city around you.
إليك الأماكن الشائعة التي قد تحتاج إلى إيجادها.
You need to find a hospital
تحتاج إلى إيجاد مستشفى
Where is the nearest hospital?
أين أقرب مستشفى؟

'Nearest' means the closest one to you.
كلمة 'nearest' تعني الأقرب إليك.
You need to exchange money
تحتاج إلى تحويل نقود
Is there a cash machine near here?
هل يوجد صرّاف آلي بالقرب من هنا؟

In the UK they say 'cash machine' or 'cashpoint'. In the US they say 'ATM'.
في بريطانيا يقولون 'cash machine'. في أمريكا يقولون 'ATM'.
You are looking for a restaurant
تبحث عن مطعم
Can you recommend a good restaurant near here?
هل يمكنك أن تنصحني بمطعم جيد قريب من هنا؟
Using Maps and Apps
استخدام الخرائط والتطبيقات
Your phone is very useful for directions. But sometimes you still need to ask someone.
هاتفك مفيد جدًا للاتجاهات. لكن أحيانًا تحتاج أن تسأل شخصًا ما.
Your phone is not working
هاتفك لا يعمل
My phone has no signal. Can you show me on a map?
هاتفي لا توجد فيه إشارة. هل يمكنك أن تُريني على الخريطة؟
The map says one thing but the road looks different
الخريطة تقول شيئًا لكن الطريق يبدو مختلفًا
I am a bit lost. Am I going the right way?
أنا تائه قليلًا. هل أمشي في الاتجاه الصحيح؟

Do not be shy to ask. Most people are happy to help.
