في الحياة اليومية، أكثر شيء ستقوله هو ما تريده أو تحتاجه. هذا النمط بسيط جدًا.
In everyday life, the most common thing you say is what you want or need. This pattern is very simple.
بالعربية — In Arabic
أريد ماء
أريد + ماء
بالإنجليزية — In English
I want water.
I + want + water
هنا الترتيب مشابه للعربية! I = أنا، want = أريد، water = ماء. سهل.
Here the order is similar to Arabic! I = أنا, want = أريد, water = ماء. Easy.
لماذا يحدث هذا لك كناطق بالعربية؟
Why does this happen to you as an Arabic speaker?
'أريد ماء' و 'I want water' — هنا الترتيب متشابه! لكن انتبه: في الإنجليزية لازم تقول 'I' في البداية دائمًا. في العربية يمكنك حذف الضمير لأن الفعل يتضمّنه. عقلك العربي سيريد البدء بالفعل مباشرة.
'أريد ماء' and 'I want water' — the order is similar here! But notice: in English you must always say 'I' at the start. In Arabic you can skip the pronoun because the verb includes it. Your Arabic brain will want to start with the verb directly.

أريد قهوة.

I need + شيء
I need + something
'want' = أريد (رغبة). 'need' = أحتاج (ضرورة).
'want' = desire. 'need' = necessity.
I need help.
أحتاج مساعدة.
I need water.
أحتاج ماء.
I need a doctor.
أحتاج طبيب.

أين...؟ — Where is...?
Where is...?
في العربية 'أين الحمام؟' — كلمة السؤال ثمّ الشيء. في الإنجليزية 'Where is the bathroom?' — لاحظ أن 'is' تدخل بينهما.
In Arabic 'أين الحمام؟' — question word then thing. In English 'Where is the bathroom?' — notice 'is' goes between them.

Where + is + the bathroom (is إجبارية)
الإنجليزية تحتاج 'is' حتى في الأسئلة. هذا يختلف تمامًا عن العربية.
English needs 'is' even in questions. This is completely different from Arabic.

في العربية، تسأل شخصًا غريبًا بشكل مباشر. في الإنجليزية، لازم تبدأ بـ 'Excuse me' قبل أي سؤال لشخص غريب. بدون 'Excuse me' يبدو السؤال فجًّا.
In Arabic, you ask a stranger directly. In English, you must start with 'Excuse me' before any question to a stranger. Without 'Excuse me' the question sounds abrupt.

Can I have...? and How much?
'Can I have...?' طريقة مهذبة لطلب شيء. 'How much?' للسؤال عن السعر.
'Can I have...?' is a polite way to ask for something. 'How much?' asks about price.
Can I have + شيء?
Can I have + something?
هذه الطريقة أكثر أدبًا من 'I want'. استخدمها في المطاعم والمتاجر.
This is more polite than 'I want'. Use it in restaurants and shops.
Can I have water, please?
ممكن ماء، من فضلك؟
Can I have coffee, please?
ممكن قهوة، من فضلك؟
Can I have the menu, please?
ممكن القائمة، من فضلك؟
في العربية، الطلب المباشر طبيعي ومقبول: 'أعطني ماء'. في الإنجليزية، الطلب المباشر يبدو وقحًا. لازم تقول 'Can I have some water, please?' — الإنجليز يستخدمون 'Can I' و 'please' دائمًا.
In Arabic, a direct request is natural: 'Give me water'. In English, a direct request sounds rude. You must say 'Can I have some water, please?' — English speakers always use 'Can I' and 'please'.

إذا نسيت 'please' أو 'excuse me' — لا تقلق. هذه عادات ثقافية تحتاج وقتًا. كل الناطقين بالعربية ينسونها في البداية لأن العربية لا تحتاجها بنفس الطريقة.
If you forget 'please' or 'excuse me' — don't worry. These are cultural habits that take time. All Arabic speakers forget them at first because Arabic doesn't use them the same way.
